Paper Abstract:      Apple’s new iPad and tablet technology in general presents a revolutionary medium for delivery and consumption of e-learning material. As with all new technologies, questions have emerged about the true value of these devices for the delivery of e-learning material and for student learning. The purpose of this study was to examine the utility of a tablet device such as the iPad by students enrolled in an online professional Masters program. Study participants (n = 21) were graduate students enrolled in an online professional Masters program at a major public university in the southeastern United States. Study participants recorded bi-weekly reflections of their use of the iPad. Specifications were not given to participants to reflect solely on the utility of the iPad in relation to their graduate studies but the iPad use in general. Findings were predominantly positive, but themes related to the limitations associated with iPad use were also expressed. Positive themes included increased flexibility, engagement with course content, productivity enhancement, and sustainability of use. Limitations included word processing and presentation development and specialized project manipulation.
